While most people were heading home on a Monday night, the fun was just getting started at The Fillmore Charlotte. On November 23, 2015, close to 900 children gathered to eat a Thanksgiving feast and celebrate the holiday with the Cam Newton Foundation, Cam, his family and lots of volunteers. The children enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal, which included turkey, mac and cheese, potatoes, green bean casserole, and cookies! They were also given bags of food to take home with them at the end of the night.
Throughout the event, Cam kept the kids laughing and smiling by serving food and creating all types of entertainment contests. The room was electric and buzzing with the nearly deafening sounds of guests who were all having a fun, worry free night.
The host of the event, Yasmin Young, began the night by having the kids write down things they are thankful for, and with help from the DJ who played all of the kids favorite tunes, they kept the party going for hours. Between the eating and dancing, the children got their faces painted, took pictures with Sir Purr, and got balloons of all shapes and sizes.
When every stomach was full and the night came to a close, Cam sent the children home with huge smiles on their faces and stories to talk about for weeks to come. It’s safe to say that the children, along with Cam, are already looking forward to next years Cam’s Thanksgiving Jam.
Big thanks to Second Harvest Food Bank, The Fillmore Charlotte, Shipt and Harris Teeter for their generous contributions.
