Saturday, July 16 marked the conclusion of the 2016 Cam Newton Foundation 7 v 7 Tournament Series. At the Championship Tournament, fifteen teams from across four different states descended upon Nation Ford High School to battle for this year’s title. After two days of intense play, Woodward Academy emerged as the 2016 Champion.
In addition to the Championship Tournament, three regional tournaments were held throughout the months of June and July – one at North Cobb High School (Kennesaw, GA), one at Woodward Academy (College Park, GA), and one at Providence Day School (Charlotte, NC). Over 1,800 student-athletes and coaches took part in these tournaments.
All CNF 7 v 7 Tournaments were played over two days. Day one was pool play, and day two was bracket play (double elimination). Each tournament brought between 18 and 26 teams from across the regions. The top teams from each regional tournament were selected to play at the Championship Tournament, in addition to select wild card teams. Teams for the tournaments consisted of 20 high school players and four coaches. All players and coaches received Under Armour gear that was sported throughout the events. Cam attended each tournament and interacted with players, coaches, and spectators. Cam also spoke to the players to provide encouragement and instruction for the upcoming school year.
The Cam Newton Foundation would like to thank all the teams that participated in the 2016 7 v 7 Tournament Series, as well as the fans who came out and showed support. The CNF would also like to thank our event sponsors – Under Armour, Gatorade, Beats by Dre, and Dick’s Sporting Goods.
