On Saturday, July 15th, the 2017 Cam Newton Foundation 7 v 7 Tournament Series came to an end. Twenty teams from five different states competed in the CNF Championship Tournament. The Championship event was held at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Georgia. When the final whistle blew, Sidney Lanier High School (AL) walked away with the trophy as the 2017 CNF 7 v 7 Champions.
Leading up to the Championship Tournament, three regional tournaments were held. On June 2nd and 3rd , 28 teams faced off at Marietta High School in Marietta, GA. In the end, Eagles Landing High School (GA) defeated Marietta High School (GA) to win the Atlanta Regional. On June 23rd and 24th , 20 teams competed at Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC. The competition was fierce, but Nation Ford High School (SC) edged out Hough High School (NC) in the Championship game to win the Charlotte Regional tournament. On June 30th and July 1st, 20 teams competed at Prattville High School in Prattville, AL. Sidney Lanier High School (AL) walked away as the winners of the Prattville Regional after going undefeated Friday and Saturday, a perfect 12-0. Center Point (AL) walked away finishing second in the tournament.
The top teams from each of these regionals and select wildcard teams were invited to play in the 2017 CNF 7 v 7 Championship on July 14th and 15th . Throughout the weekend, the teams attended a pre-tournament welcome and social, involving dinner and playing volleyball, then went to the Atlanta Braves game the following night. As the sun set on the last night of the tournament, Sidney Lanier High School (AL) outlasted Beauregard High School (AL) to become the 2017 Champions.
Each tournament was two days long, the first day being pool play to determine seeding and the second day being bracket play. Every team participating in the 2017 CNF Tournament Series was composed of twenty high school players and four coaches. The top three teams of each tournament received a monetary donation; first place received $2,500, second place received $1,500, and third place received $1,000. All student-athletes and coaches received Under Armour gear to wear throughout the tournament. Cam attended each tournament and interacted with student-athletes by coaching, throwing, and giving speeches of encouragement.
