For the sixth year in a row, Santa Cam’s Surprise Sleigh made its way throughout the Queen City! On December 17, Santa Cam, along with friends, family and volunteers, surprised five groups by spreading holiday cheer and joy. Chase was our presenting partner, and Hendrick Motors of Charlotte, Under Armour and Bojangle’s provided additional support.
Cam and the Sleigh, made up of eight red and white Mercedes-Benz SUVs, made the first stop of the day at Phillip O. Berry High School. At the school, Cam spoke with 50 student-athletes about dedication and surprised them with Under Armour sports bags and water bottles in their team colors. Also, a $15,000 donation to Phillip O. Berry’s athletic department was given. The donation will assist with several key challenges the athletic department is currently experiencing.
After visiting Phillip O. Berry, Santa Cam’s Surprise Sleigh made its way to Westerly Hills Elementary for a surprise staff party! At the second stop, Cam was welcomed by 100 school staff members. As a thank you, the entire school staff (including teachers, administrative, custodians and bus drivers) received a $100 Visa gift card. Cam also asked the teachers questions about their school experiences.
Next, Santa Cam’s Surprise Sleigh continued on to UrbanPromise After-School and Summer Program. Seventy Kindergarten through 7th grade students and twenty-five high school StreetLeaders were participating in their daily routine before Cam made a surprise guest appearance. Cam spoke about leadership and participated in a few fun games. The entire group was given an Under Armour backpack and Winter hat. Before leaving, Cam gave a $25,000 donation to UrbanPromise Charlotte.
The fourth Sleigh stop was Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. The food bank was having a festive volunteer appreciation event when Cam popped in to say hello and thank all the hard-working and dedicated volunteers. In addition, Cam made another $25,000 donation. The donation will help support and grow SHFBM’s volunteer initiatives.
The fifth and final stop of the day was the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte. At the Men’s Shelter, over 250 men were served a Bojangle’s meal of chicken, sides, biscuits and more. They were also given a $20 Bojangle’s gift card. Cam served and interacted with the guests before leaving another $25,000 donation. The donation will support the Men’s Shelter programming and overall mission.
Over $130,000 was distributed throughout the afternoon of Santa Cam! We appreciate the generosity of our presenting partner, Chase, as well as Hendrick Motors of Charlotte, Under Armour and Bojangle's.
